Christmas Poems and Musings.....

Dear Reader....

Over the years, I have written a number of seasonal poems for various times of the year. My favorite season is always Christmas....especially in December. So, in honor of the season and the dawning oif December, here are some of my poems.....perhaps at least one will catch your fancy.

Merry Christmas!!

From a Star to the Cross

Written just for you by The QOE

Merry Christmas

From the Christmas star to Calvary’s cross is a long and a weary way;

It began in a makeshift cradle of straw and led to that hill of tears.

He was just a baby, like anyone else, though born in a barn, some say:

But His meaning to us is measured in more than a span of thirty-three years.

She was just a girl, this Mary I mean, about like your teenage child;

But her destiny was a God-planned one that a luminous angel announced.

He was just a simple carpenter, hard working, kind-hearted and mild,

And he took his bride to be, with child, though she could have been renounced.

Then off they went on a “wedding trip” to the village of Bethlehem;

She on a donkey and he on foot, they traveled a dusty track.

Little they had, so little they took on this journey along with them;

They went to be counted and taxed, by law, with scarce but the clothes on their backs.

To tiny Bethlehem went they, along with countless others;

There wasn’t a spot in an inn to be had, so filled were they with strangers.

Joseph, the carpenter, knew his wife was about to become a mother;

So he took her to stay where the animals lay in the shelter of a manger.

Late that night in the desert air, when the stars came out to dance,

A birth took place in that humble spot, more humble than hearth or hod.

And even the animals caught their breath, looking on in a sort of trance,

As Joseph of Galilee helped his wife to deliver the Son of God.

And did they know or somehow grasp the import of that night?

Did angels carefully explain the mission of their swaddled son?

Or did they simply plod along, buoyed up by faith that maybe…..might…

Sustain them as the tide of time swept and hurled them both along?

Who knows?

Most of us travel the road of life shrouded by ignorance, faith and fear;

Like shepherds surprised by a glorious host, out on the desert height,

Angels announcing Messiah’s birth, that God was real, that God was here;

Wide-eyed, amazed, they yet believed and went to Him that night.

Led by a star, strangers traveled far to worship a tiny King;

The Magi brought Him royal gifts of myrrh and frankincense and gold.

The trappings of His majesty were neither robes nor crown nor ring,

But only faith in miraculous signs and a prophecy of old.

We know that year led on to year, as Jesus grew to be a man,

In time, He left His earthly home to do His Heavenly Father’s will.

He offered us salvation through His love, and by God’s plan,

Offered Himself upon a cross…and saved us on that pain-wracked hill.

But, save the cross for another day: tonight remember the star in JOY;

The God of creation sent His Son, fulfilling words foretold before Him.

He sent His Love, His begotten child, in the form of a baby boy;

And since tonight is Christmas Eve,

O, come, let us adore Him.

Christmas Love from our hearts to yours

More Christmas......

Remembering a friend.....
