As Autumn Comes to Colesville....and to Nova Scotia.....

God the Artist

As summer winds down and autumn begins, it’s easy for us to imagine that God is literally painting the leaves as they turn – often over night – and the last blooms of summer give us one final burst of vibrant color. Even in parts of the world where seasons don’t change, as they do here, there is incredible beauty to be seen: in the tropic rain forests; in the permanence of snowy glaciers; in the red rocks and granite crags of mountains; and in the undulating sands of deserts. All creation cries out to advertise the Master Painter who made it all.

There are other folks who make the claim that somehow “all that is” came about by a series of accidents, which is harder for me to believe than that God did it…..  and is perhaps still doing it.

Something to Think About

Some think that nature happened by itself, by accident:

There was no God in charge of what “evolved” or where it went.

But, lie down on a starry night and look into the air

To contemplate the suns and stars and planets that are there.

Consider all the intricate and detailed living things:

The ones that swim or crawl or walk, the ones who fly with wings.

Look closely at the flowers, food crops and all the trees.

If none of that yet causes you to fall upon your knees,

Then study for a moment a strand of DNA,

Whose double helix structure is a mystical array

Of particles so tiny, and complexity so rife,

The blueprint of creation, the enabler of life.

Creation had to be the work of a prodigious mind,

Uniquely able to conceive and awesomely design

A universe too vast for any scientist to measure,

Containing both enormity and microscopic treasure.

Who is the author of the sky, the sea, the very sod?

Some claim it’s all an accident, but I know it’s all God.
