Valentine Poem #2

Valentine Love 2013

Defining love is hard to do,

Ephemeral, elusive bands

Entwine themselves around a heart,

And cause a reaching of the hands.

Perhaps Love starts in Heaven,

A comet of glitter streaking through,

Which orbits somehow to our realm,

And sifts like snow on me, on you.

It blossoms when surrounded by

The love of family, friends who care:

Its fragrance is the golden glow

That gilds the special times we share.

To share with all we know so well,

To squander in a flaming crush;

All kinds of love to season life

With constancy or passion’s rush.

Our times with those who’ve gone before,

Memories dearer far than gold.

Its magic makes us catch our breath:

It’s ever new, does not grow old.

Thus you and I are so entwined:

Strong ties, yet soft as any dove

Lash heart to heart, year after year

By that sweet mystery known as “Love.”

Thank God, it binds us each to each,

As through this world our paths may wind.

For there can be no greater gift

Than comfy, well-worn Valentines.
