Business as Usual....

Back to School

Listen!!!

What is that mysterious sound?

It’s one more ol’ summer…..

Grown weak, winding down!

Listen!

That laughter and joy that you hear

Is the cheering of mothers at this time of year.

Today the children went back to school,

As well we all remember,

Despite grief for a summer that’s almost gone,

Replaced the third week in September.

Yes,

Summer, for children, has come to an end,

Though autumn, officially waits ‘round the bend.

Those children, beloved but easily bored,

Who stayed home all summer -

Who played, whined and snored –

Have gone back to school, as they should every morn,

And the moms are ecstatic,

In fact, feel reborn!

The nights are much cooler, the birds are in swarm,

They’re studying maps for someplace that is warm.

The leaves are less green, despite this year’s rain,

Colored leaves start their show, Autumn’s nearing again.

Soon we’ll be seeing the woods all ablaze;

While evenings are cloaked in a fragrant wood haze.

Leaves will be falling as winter sets in.

Cold freezes the world…And what shall we do then?

We’ll do as we have done, in all times and seasons:

Serve families, do jobs, for the simp’lest of reasons:

Because this is our path, in love and in peace,

To meet others’ needs until needs themselves cease.

Autumn: Something to "Stew" about....
