I’m counting on my fingers, and there’s clearly not enough:
Once you were over 20, the counting thing got tough.
How is it that our baby has grown so blinkin’ old…
Struggling in the frozen north with snow and ice and cold?
We’re proud it is your calling to become a Mountain Man…
You’re fit to teach survival, if there’s anyone who can!
If ever there’s disaster, and the world’s in trouble dire,
There you’ll be….building shelters and cooking on the fire.
The bear and moose will stand around…drooling, licking chops…
Opining that ol’ Trevor, as a woodland cook, is tops!
As for me, I’m hoping that you’ll be on my side,
For round and aged grammies really need survival guides.
If I just had a rocking chair, made out of twigs and brush,
I’d write about your exploits in the Adirondack hush…
A truly epic tribute – for a guy who’s city-raised –
And in the daunting wilderness is worthy of great praise!
I’d read it in the forest, the pure, pine-scented air…
And all the creatures of the woods, agreeing, would be there.
But for today, we celebrate the day of Trevor’s birth,
When a cross of Daniel Boone and ol’ Paul Bunyan came to earth.
