Pandemic Valentine...

Happy Valentine’s Day

Saint Valentine gets credit

For this day that means so much;

When the gift we give each other

Is just to stay in touch.

For friendships come and friendships go:

In much of life, they do.

But, there’s a cord supernal

This year ‘twixt me and you.

A heart-shaped box of chocolates

Might be a welcome gift,

But seeing one beloved face

Provides a longer lift.

In any so-called normal year,

We surely could do worse

Than focus on some paper hearts..

Or lines of loving verse.

But, when life’s out of focus,

As it is this year,

There’s treasure in each contact,

Sharing laughs and sharing tears.

In all the milestones of our lives,

We cling to one another:

To share our joys and halve our cares...

As sisters and as brothers.

It’s fitting that a feast of love

Should brighten February:

Whose darkness is reminder of

So much that’s temporary.

Though Spring is still a month away,

When dismal days should end,

Yet sunlight’s in the reaching out,

Of lonesome friend for friend.

A toast to the unsuspecting Saint,

Whose spare cell had no room

For Internet or Google,

Nor societies on Zoom.

We know he did not mean to boost

Hallmark’s bottom line:

This Patron Saint of Love and friends.

Was not for fame inclined.

Though profits are enormous

For Godiva and the florist,

The best gifts are affordable,

Yes, even for the poorest.

All it takes is contact,

A simple, loving word…

To send the greatest Valentine

Ever seen….or heard.

We wish it quickly over,

This pandemic we have weathered…

Meanwhile, here’s virtual love and hugs,

Until we’re back together.

Valentine Love to all of you,

From the QOE
