Each meeting of the Rotary Club of Colesville opens with Saluting the Flag, singing a patriotic song, and a prayer/poem. This particular one was written to reflect the program for the evening which highlighted our nearest Humane Society and its good work.

Rotary Prayer

September 7, 2016

It’s the

Dawning of September,

And our days grow dark too soon:

It’s a sizzling end to summer

Soon eclipsed by Harvest’s moon.

And, in this world of constant change,

Where few things will endure,

Often our greatest comfort

Has four legs and piles of fur.

Our program will acquaint us

With Humane Society lore

Of those unloved or cast aside,

Yet hoping to be loved once more.

God speaks to us through wagging tails,

A purr that ebbs and flows:

A paw that reaches out in hope,

The sniffing of a dampish nose.

And we,

Your servants on this earth,

We have the power to save

A fuzzy little life or two,

A better future pave.

We reach a hand to those in need,

On two feet or on four:

Communicating brotherhood

Where none was known before.

Chris tonight will school us on

A different kind of news…

The challenges of homeless pets,

From frontline points of view.

Of course, you could adopt a pet,

You angel from above!

To trade providing him a home

For endless heaps of love.

But, if that’s just not in the cards,

Let cash take up the task

Of keeping furry friends alive

Until they’ve found a home….

At last.

Amen.
