Love…
I know you think, as I may, too,
That all the world is quite depraved,
That all is lost
And few are saved,
That living’s only for the brave…
The world is spinning off its axis,
That all we’ve left are death and taxes.
Sometimes this seems true.
But,
On this day so dear to Venus,
Let’s wallow in a sea of flowers,
Hug and nuzzle endless hours,
Breathe of Love’s immortal powers…
Surprise someone with chocolate candy,
Which, the poet says, is “dandy”…
In fact, let’s share it all between us!
Because…
It’s Love that’s dripping down,
On every mortal and immortal…
In lovers’ sighs and baby chortle…
Making young and old cavort ‘til…
They can just cavort no more…
‘Til Heaven beckons at the door.
And, in that final closing haze,
They measure out the worth of days
By all the nectar they’ve drunk of
That endless liqueur
We call
Love.
