Our 2021 Christmas Poem...

Merry Christmas…

Written Just for You

Thank Heaven one brief season of the year is devoted to Hope, Peace, Joy, Love….and many are delighted to participate in its celebration, no matter what we call it! May you and yours be merry and well…may your home be festive…and your tummy full! Our greeting to you is inspired by the newest little twig on our family tree…..

J.T.’s First Christmas

Our little great grandson is just a month old:

His squeaks are pure silver...his giggles pure gold.

His twenty-some parents are learning to cope…

Girded by confidence, fueled by Hope.

We sigh at the sight of his angelic face,

We wonder just what he will think of this place.

No survey had he about personal choice;

No representative, veto or voice…

No say in his future existence, because

Two lives came together, and presto! He WAS!

So, here he is now on the brink of Year One,

Our wonderful, beautiful, wee great grandson.

I trust that his shiny new soul senses Peace,

That, for all of us, that may be on the increase…

Not just at Christmas, but more of the norm,

Though likely it won’t…as would be true to form.

But, Hooray! That at Christmas comes this little boy,

To bring those who welcome him excess of Joy.

Hooray! That there’s even a few precious weeks,

When life smooths its wrinkles and gives us a peek

Of what our existence could be so full of,

If all motivations were grounded in Love.

I can’t help but think of that babe long ago,

Whose parents trekked wearily, dusty and slow.

‘Til at Bethlehem they were simply exhausted…

Patience? Well…we’d understand, if they lost it.

Wall-to-wall people, and oh! What a din!

Small wonder there were no rooms at an inn.

Thank Heaven! That one gentle heart in that city,

Took one look at Mary, surrendered to pity.

“I’d take you inside, if I only was able,

But all I can offer is space in the stable.”

And that’s how that baby, a Dear Little Stranger,

Came to be laid in the hay of a manger.

Who knew in that difficult moment of old,

That millennia later his story’d be told?

Who knew that a baby of such humble birth

Would govern the course and the history of Earth?

A new life may rest in a cradle we borrow,

Yet still be the key to a brighter tomorrow.

So, look on your children with patience and Hope…

Life is not easy, we struggle to cope!

Just for the moment, help chaos to cease,

By letting in sympathy…welcoming Peace.

Greet your tomorrows in each girl and boy,

To minimize worry and maximize Joy…

Give gifts to each other there’s too little of…

Bottomless bundles of Kindness and Love.

Merry Christmas and a Bright and Glorious New Year!!

Love, Dick and Lida
