A Quarter Century of Double T

Twenty-five years ago, Trevor Thomas Maldonado was born. In our family, he is the “baby” of his generation….the “tail on the dog” so to speak. Just about six weeks ago, the first of the next generation, Jacob Thomas Maldonado was born. So, Trevor Thomas…Double T…is now “Uncle T.” They are both pretty %#$@ cute! But, today is Double T Day…

Written just for you

A quarter century ago, I set out on a drive,

Intent to have a ring-side seat when Double T arrived.

First went to Carolina to visit my Aunt Lide,

My loyal pal, My Nonie, was riding right beside.

We planned to go to New Orleans to meet with Vi and Karen…

All at once was “No more time,” no “horses” to be sparin’.

We zoomed off in the morning…drove 900 miles a day:

Woe betide the unwise soul who might be in our way!

And that is how I came to be on deck, though travel-worn,

When Trevor Thomas fell to Earth the day that he was born.

We’d raced across the country as far as Colorado,

So I could look upon a babe who looked like who?

Nick Faldo!

If no one has explained to you your true paternity,

It’s time to call Old Village Lane for authenticity.

But, meanwhile, it’s your birthday…and with any kind of “pluckous…”*

You’ll lay your work and troubles down and raise a little ruckus!

Gather chocolate, gather cake, some beverage perchance:

Pat the pets, and kiss the gal, warble, whoop and dance!!

***********

Happy Birthday, my Darling Boy

And several centuries more!!!

Love, Nana

XOXOXO

*This, dear reader, is a prime example of poetic license, which often means the shameless mortification of a word to make it fit the poet’s selfish designs….NO MATTER WHAT. It is, roughly, the literary equivalent of Cinderella’s stepsisters each trying to cram a nasty, oversized foot into her glass slipper. This is not an Apologia….merely an explanation.
