Christmas Message to One and All….2023
I scan the skies on Christmas Eve for flying sleighs or angel song…
For proof of what I do believe…and have for near this whole life long.
Is it magic? Is it God? Sometimes they weave and blend…
The Mysteries of the Other mix and mingle without end.
How magical the Christmas tale…the plight of Mother Mary!
How fragile was that little girl…the babe she had to carry.
How trusting gentle Joseph, whom the angel reassured…
He kept the girl…he made the trek…despite whatever doubts endured.
The shepherds on the hillside…were not educated men…
Unwashed, unwanted, cast aside…unfit for even Bethlehem.
They only knew the voices of sheep… each whine or bleat,
Til all the Holy Host of Heaven ‘roused them to their feet.
Amazed were they and frightened by that mystic sound and sight,
Though a message of, “Fear not!” was heard, winging through the night.
“Tidings of great joy I bring,” the angel echoed still:
“Meant to bless all people motivated by good will.”
A King apparently was born, to serve and save mankind…
So, off the trusting shepherds ran, this miracle to find!
“You’ll find the babe in swaddling clothes…lying in a manger.”
But to those simple shepherds, a town was all the stranger.
Something – perhaps the hand of God – led them on their way
To find a tiny infant King cradled in the hay.
Upon their knees no gifts to bring…only trust and joy,
Faith in all the angel’s words crowned that humble little boy.
And, all around the manger, the animals looked on…
Innocent as babes themselves with tired midnight yawn.
Later, Wisemen came to see the wonder God had wrought…
They rode in on camels, and much richer gifts they brought.
But, never were there finer gifts than that sweet faith of those
Who listened to an angel’s voice and instantly arose…
This is a truth that lives today…no gift will quite suffice,
Beyond a pure and simple faith that Jesus is The Christ!
