Rotary Christmas Party Prayer
December 13, 2023
The
Landscapes of the
Southern Tier
Are gripped by icy chill,
They draw
A perfect Christmas card
On every vale and hill.
A traditional northern backdrop
For this season of the year,
To let us know our “Giving Time” is drawing
Very near.
Rotarians are giving folk: as any of us will tell.
But, be prepared to listen and to maybe sit a spell.
Let’s just take a moment to note what we’ve received…
To focus on our blessings and the precepts we believe.
O, Lord, we are so grateful that we, who are so blessed,
Can share with strangers faraway
Or close and welcome guests.
We thank you for community, for caring, decent neighbors.
Who help support our causes
With their money and their labor.
We thank you that our projects meet with great success,
And that the funds we work to raise
Help others in distress.
We’re glad for senior citizens, for children, large and small,
And for the means to demonstrate our caring for them all.
This year, we may not hear the sound of bells and reindeer paws,
For protests, war and chaos strive to drown out Santa Claus….
And yet,
We’re here this evening…
Another meal to share:
Somehow enjoying fellowship
With Christmas in the air.
We bless the hands that serve us…
And the voices of our friends;
This time of year,
Our memories and current blessings blend…
To blot out all but happiness…
And when the evening’s done,
Please see each person safely home….
God, bless us….everyone.
Amen.
