Today You Must Be Irish!
Today you must be Irish…Alas for lesser folk:
Fine for finding a Leprechaun and telling an Irish joke.
It’s a day for Celtic music…Tribute to all things green…
A flagon of Irish coffee and the kiss of a sweet colleen.
So, bring on the Irish dancers, the scrape of a fiddle tune,
The chink of another round, me boys, til sunlight swallows the moon.
We’ve legends, myths and history…Poetry theatric:
It drapes the past in mystery and glorifies Saint Patrick.
With fragrant grass beneath us: with evergreens above,
It’s a day to kiss the Blarney Stone, a brand new pub to love.
Soon spring’s drama will unfold, new shamrocks freshly made,
The yearly resurrection of what grows within the glade.
It’s a wonderful world God made us, green shades on every hand:
And clear it is the Lord Himself claims this His favorite land.
The very cycle of life itself declares a celebration…
So, here’s to spring, and our lucky selves, and the Fabulous Irish Nation!
But, if you be not Irish, paste on your bravest smile,
And think how much better a soul you’d be,
If you’d sprung from the Emerald Isle!
